Caixa Geral de Depósitos, S.A. is a Portuguese state-owned Bank, head of the largest financial services group in Portugal. Group CGD is the only shareholder of Banco Nacional Ultramarino, S.A.

In December 31st, 2004 CGD’s consolidated assets were valued at EUR 70 269 million with shareholder's funds of EUR 4 900 million.

As part of a financial group, CGD is active in all areas of the financial sector, with a large market share in retail and commercial banking, investment banking, insurance, asset management, brokerage, leasing and factoring, venture capital and real estate management.

CGD’s Aa3 and Prime-1 rating by Moody’s (A+ and A-1 by S&P; AA- and F1+ by Fitch), as at January 2005, ranks it among some important multinational financial institutions and several sovereign states. CGD’s rating is the highest among all Portuguese banks.
